Writing Celebration #2 ‘Authors as Mentors’

This was the culmination of the students second writing unit, entitled Authors as Mentors. Their job was to write another small moment story from their lives, including lots of different crafts author other authors.  I decided to focus on the author, Mo Willems, because he is so accessible for English language learners.  Some of his crafts include using LOTS of punctuation, dialogue, intricate facial expressions in his pictures and changing the font size for different affects.  The students adored his books.

So, here are their published stories being read aloud.  I think they all did a fantastic job and not only can you see the growth in their writing, you can also see it in their reading.  They read with more expression and more confidence.  Well done, everyone!
